daria's syndrom

There's a new girl at the first floor. She works at the IT department. She's Finn but barely speaks the language as she's spent most of her life in the States.

Where in the US are you from?
Ohio
Oh! the potatoe state!
You're confusing with Idaho.
Oups! Sorry. So… what else do you grow in Ohio?
Pollution…

I must admit it's a good line. LOL

Still, what is it with this trend of teenagers and late twenties, especially in the US but I'm sensing it'll eventually take here in Europe, what is it with Daria-sounding-and-behaving-like kids?

It is particularly … tasty to listen to teens talking from experience as if they were thirty and older.

Well, it can be tiring too.

Depends on the mood I'm in. I claim immaturity here.

yum

Something I don't quite get here. Yogurt is sold, for some, in bricks, like milk. Fair enough, except that when the brick is empty, yogurt being not quite as liquid as milk, remains some at the bottom.

I usually use milk to stir what's at the bottom but that does not cut it.

We used to lick the fatter part on covers of yogurts when we were kids. It was the best.

I guess some local will eventually let me know of a way to better finish up a brick of yogurt. I won't, then, have to pathetically resort to tearing them all apart like I did, again, this morning. ^_^

GreadBearMd needs his LJ friends

is going through a very rough time at the moment and his last post shows he's making links between events which have nothing in common with one another.

My point is that if we could either leave comments to show him our support or even better post a few caring words so that he would read them anytime he's checking out his friends' posts.

This is also what LJ is meant for, isn't it?

No use insisting

RS  had invited all of us, from all trades and nationalities, to celebrate his return back to Paris tomorrow.

I can be a perfect guest and socialize with anybody but whenever I feel the sauce does not take and chances are remote it ever will I am too uncomfortable then and prefer leaving instead of tragging and getting to same conclusion hours later.

WO came, along with his wife. Many germans came as a matter of fact which is a sort of salute to RS and how he managed the project while AB was on vacation. AB being absent to nobody's surprise apparently…

I'm in no mood for mediocre conversations these days and WO is probably the only one I feel like … sparkling with. I just didn't find the … proper approach without being too obvious.

… and I don't want to be disappointed. I chose to retreat instead.

I guess there is equally masochism and sadism in all this. LOL

I don't know if I should say that but…

… I found out, yesterday, that my first name translates, almost, into a swear word in Finnish.
Paska = what would be the equivalent of 'shit'.

Great! I am in what is probably the only country in the world (given the likelihood it would happen anywhere else) where this could happen.

I prefered when I didn't know that. Now I'll be rather nervous saying my name…

Quick, quick, … enjoy while it lasts

The weather reamains beautiful inspite of forecasts that predicted Tuesday and today were to have showers. None so far.

I begin to understand why dutch people I knew when I was a kid as well as other people from northern countries seemed to be so eager to make the best of each day they spent on vacation in Britanny.

We had 2 months and the quasi garantee that most days would be sunny. School seemed to be so remote why the rush? There would always be a Tomorrow.

They started class earlier and once back home 'their' weather was certainly not as clement.

The rest of Europe may suffer these days from the heat wave, we … don't here. No reason to remain at home, we'll have months of that later I guess.

I went swimming yesterday. I noticed there was indeed tides and the sea was a little bit salty contrary to any other time I swam there. Seagulls were not too pleased to see me invade their little island again but I dont speak seagull so couldn't care less what they obviously tried to let me know while I was sunbathing on their territory…

I'll go swimming again today if I can. There is a certain urgency in profiting from what mother nature allows us. She might not always be that generous.

neat net

Yesterday evening I was able to listen, for a couple of hours before going to bed, to a festival that's taking place in a city I know very well in my native region, Britanny: Carhaix-Plouguer, les vieilles charrues.

I know it sounds rather banal but I just realized the kind of … technological miracle it was.

No conventional radio (which I don't have anyway) could allow me to hear it with the quality I got then and get everyday listening to whatever online radio I care to switch to.

This leads me to write something awfully pretentious but, to me, true (Duh!): the moment something does not surprise me, it becomes banal.

This is deep…

Just saying ^_^
