obsession

In the not so distant future, I will be less like the guy I currently am. I have this image in my head of what I want to be and I will do whatever I have to within reason, to safely get there.

Definition of obsession : Tom about his appearance and … me about BDJ for not showing any pic of him since last year…

Learning a lesson the hard way

I sold and bought back same amount of stocks; typical day trading. Problems is: the type of order I utilized was new to me* and … I sold at a price I was hoping to buy and vice versa.

I now know what to avoid doing.

* Note for self: best limit means that, for a buying order, the lowest price at which someone sells determines the limit at which the stock is bought until completion. In case of a buying order, it works the other way around.

Best limit does not equal best price

Image analysis

There is more to this image than the plain message it conveys.

  • The girl, the fact she's blonde and that she feels the need to show her belly.
  • The poster, the blue-white-red background (our colours too in case she'd ignore the fact), the “Hey France bla-bla-bla” in red along with “YOU“. Incidently the other poster in the back bearing the word “Communism” definitely erases any doubt the viewers may have had: we're desperately commies. As a matter of fact I googled Uncle Sam needs you: in most cases YOU is written in red, too…
  • A pilot from WW2 in the center of the poster. Obviously, along with the sentence right underneath “WE'LL protect civilization“, one understands the parallel between WW2 and what is happening in Iraq.

Well, sorry young lady but I don't. She should be ashamed to use the image of someone, in age probably her grand-father, who came to rescue us (the 'civilized' then) 60 years ago. She should be ashamed as well as learn her history in order to convey a better message.

Besides, most people here would not understand “Shut the hell up” so what is her audience?

T's deep thoughts

I already posted about what A said to me last week-end, I forgot T's input, on a totally different matter.

At one point in the discussion I mentionned a young colleague, recently hired in the department. Basically what she had done, that I'd like to do, that is dedicating one year for a charitable cause, was very much, in my opinion, a true achievement in one's life.

A said that what I was doing (ALC5 as a rider) was close to it so… Well, the difference is that I know where I'm going, for how long, and ALC having organized this for a couple of years over the same route risks are minimal and, in a way, uneventful. Plus the States are not Venezuela: the food one eats, the water one drinks and the shower one takes are hot for the first, drinkable the second and there's no shortage to be feared for any of the three.

We dwelled over the subject for a moment, inevitably making comparisons between charities. T had not said anything just yet, or very little, but in his typically perceptive way, though one might characterize selfish, he merely stated that going all the way to Venezuela was kind of snob when there are thousands of charitable matters to deal with in this country…

!!?? MMmm-kay…

Later T added that I should probably re-evaluate my contribution to ALC since there seemed to be a constant quest for more: roadie for 2 years now rider, later what?

Later again, T said something nicer, much nicer, though it questionned again my involvement in ALC….

I admit some of the things he said hit home and left me confused…

Yogurt maker

It is weird how sometime I see in other people's homes the same kitchenware we used to have. Not just the same kind but many times the same model.

Of course not so long ago we only had 2, 3 tv channels so the influence of publicity was global from Britanny to Franche Comté…

Mummy has always been rather enthusiast about trying new things but rarely remained consistent persistent.

Will I do better?

Super Tom

So Tom did it. Apparently rather easily. 1 rep. Still… Very impressive.

405# does not really speak to me (pretty much like Euro didn't represent anything valuable at first), but 182.25kg definitely does. I'm not sure there are that many, even in the gym Tom goes to, who can lift that heavy.

And the guy is 55!!

Memories

I check out every now and then Rob's blog. He's slowly recovering from Chuck's passing (last 12th).

Right now it's time for dust to settle down, for good memories to slowly take over. Rob seems to be in the same situation I was in when Dad died: surprise. Life goes on like a train keeps going though some passengers are missing. You keep yelling but nobody listens. Hard to describe really.

Such moments will alternate with more somber ones when missing loved one will appear so unfair and unjustified.
