Cloud Computing Begins to Gain Traction on Wall Street by Wall Street & Technology
-
Cloud-based services so far are cheaper than traditional IT products, such as large in-house databases.
-
Cloud computing users leverage servers, applications and/or storage hosted by a provider (or by their own company, in the case of internal clouds) and are billed strictly for what they use each month, like a metered utility. So if a company is launching a new product that requires a large database, it doesn’t need to go out and buy one; it can use one hosted by a cloud provider such as Amazon, Google or Vertica.

Wikis and Wall Street: A Perfect Match? by Wall Street & Technology
-
By focusing on improving productivity and supporting mission-critical apps (but not touching customer and transaction data), wikis can be used to deliver major ROI without requiring integration with legacy systems or storing customer data outside the firewall. The focus is on streamlining internal processes such as authoring documents, establishing policies and procedures, and managing distributed agent networks.

Twitter can help plan your holiday – Telegraph
-
“the advantage for a visitor is that they can use Twitter to get
answers without picking up the phone or sending an email, and best of all
the conversation with the DMO will be public. Chances are that other people
will chime in as well.”Those chiming in might include a hotelier offering a deal, a real person at
the DMO with this weekend’s festival programme, or a resident keen for you
to try their favourite restaurant.Chicago (@VisitChicago)
and Arizona (@ArizonaTourism)
lead the way, listening and interacting as well as broadcasting local
updates. User numbers are small but growing fast. Europe is a bit late to
the party. VisitBritain has “no plans at present”, though
VisitScotland (@VisitScotland)
occasionally tweets. This week, the Netherlands (@VisitHolland)
launched a serious Twitter presence. -
“When we secure great last-moment deals we often only stream them on
Twitter because they are so time sensitive. Customers following us have
access to the best bargains we offer,” explains Andy Washington,
Director of Sales at lastminute.com (@lastminute_com).
